Flaxseed Chutney Powder

Flaxseed chutney powder is a tasty condiment to have in the kitchen shelves. It pairs well with idli, dosa, chapati or even rice. Sprinkle some on rice or any dish for the special touch.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup flaxseed
  • 1/2 cup desiccated coconut
  • 15-20 dry red chilli
  • a few curry leaves
  • tamarind a small piece
  • jaggery a small piece
  • salt
  • 1 + 2 teaspoon oil
  • 1/4 turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida

Instructions

  • Dry roast the flaxseed until they splutter and you get a nutty aroma. 
  • Dry roast the desiccated coconut and curry leaves
  • Put a spoon of oil and roast the red chilly.
  • Once the ingredients cool, grind them together.  Add salt, jaggery and tamarind to it and again give a swirl. 
  • Heat oil in a pan and make the seasoning. Add turmeric powder and asafoetida to the oil, put the ground powder and turn off the stove. Mix well and store in a air tight container. 

Notes

Garlic may be added to it. You need to roast them in oil and then grind along with other ingredients.
