Oats Dhokla / how to make instant oats dhokla

Oats Dhokla is a healthy twist to the usual one. Powdered oats, semolina and yoghurt are used to make this snack. This is an instant version, needs no soaking or fermentation. It can be prepared within an hour.

Let’s get to the recipe of Oats Dhokla, Instant Version

Ingredients:

For the batter:
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 inch grated ginger
  • 2 teaspoon coriander chopped
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • salt to taste
  • water for batter
For seasoning:
  • 2 teaspoon cooking oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame
  • 2 green chilly
  • a few curry leaves
Method:
  1. Grind the oats.
  2. Grate the ginger and keep it aside.
  3. In a bowl add the oats powder. Put semolina to it and mix it with yoghurt. Add little water if needed, the consistency should be idli batter.
  4. Keep it aside for half an hour.
  5. Grease a tin, add the baking powder to it, mix and pour it.
  6. Put water in a steamer, put it to boil. Keep the tin and steam it for 10-15 minutes. The best way to check if it is done properly, is to insert a knife, if it comes out clean, it is done.
  7. Keep it aside.
  8. Make the seasoning. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, as it crackles, put sesame. Throw in the green chilly and curry leaves. Put the tempering over the prepared dhokla and cut into pieces.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup oats powder
  • 1 cup semolina
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 2 teaspoon chopped coriander
  • 1 cup curd
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • salt to taste
  • water ( if needed)
For the seasoning:
  • 2 teaspoon oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame
  • 2 green chilly
  • a few curry leaves

Method
 

  1. Grind the oats.
  2. Grate the ginger and keep it aside.
  3. Put the oats powder in a bowl. Add semolina, curd, salt and grated ginger to it. Mix it. If the consistency is thick, add some water. Keep it aside for half an hour.
  4. Grease a pan, put water in the steamer, lit the stove.
  5. Put baking soda to the batter, mix and pour it immediately to the greased bowl.
  6. Steam it for 10-12 minutes. The best way to check if it is done properly, is to insert a knife, if it comes out clean, it is done.Keep it aside. 
  7. Make the seasoning. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, as it crackles, put sesame. Throw in the green chilly and curry leaves. Put the tempering over the prepared dhokla and cut into pieces.

Notes

  • You can use eno instead of baking soda. If using eno, you need to add 1.5 teaspoon of it.
  • You may add a little chilly powder in the seasoning.ย
