Indo-Chinese snacks are very popular. Among the many varieties Alu 65, or chilli potato is one of them. A dry snack , it is tasty and loved by all. It can be of different kinds as with cauliflower, paneer or tofu. I have used potato as it is liked by kids and I had prepared it on my daughter’s birthday.
Alu 65 is easy to make. What is essential in this dish ? Hard boiled potatoes is needed. If they are soft, you will not be able to cut them into cubes and fry. Hence, boil whole potatoes and you will get them the right way.
INGREDIENTS :
- potatoes boiled 3
- self raising flour or maida 2 cups
- cornflour 1/4 cup
- chilli powder 1/2 tsp
- pepper powder 1/2 tsp
- cumin powder 1/2 tsp
- coriander powder 1/2 tsp
- salt to taste
- soya sauce 2 tsp
- chat masala 1/2 tsp
- water for mixing
- oil for frying
METHOD :
Hard boil the potatoes. To get this keep them whole in the pressure cooker. Remove skin and cut into cubes. Mix all ingredients except oil to batter of thick consistency. Heat oil in a frying pan. Dip the potatoes in the batter and slowly ,let them in the oil. Deep fry till brown in colour. Serve hot with a dip or tomato ketchup.
MAKE A NOTE : Red colour is usually added to the batter for all Chinese dishes but I have not used it. Artificial colours are not good for health.
